June 21, 2020: God is Powerful

Let’s Start!

What makes the lights in your room work? Electricity! Electricity is power coming through the wires to help things in your house to work, light-up and move.

Today we’re going to talk about God’s power!

Let’s Watch!

Let’s Talk!

  • What did God tell Joshua and Israel to do to defeat Jericho? March around and then shout.
  • How did God use His power to help them? God made the walls fall down!
  • God showed his power to Israel in many ways. Because they had seen Him do those things, they could trust Him.
  • Is there anyone in your life who shows you what it looks like to follow God and trust in His power? Who?
  • Why do we need God’s power in our lives? To help us fight the battles we have.
  • How have you seen God’s power in your life?

Let’s Do!

What you need: This activity requires a dark room and a glow stick, a dim flashlight, or dim headlamp.

What you do:

  1. Have a parent or adult hide a small toy or sticker in a room (parents can adjust the item and difficulty for age level).
  2. Turn off the lights and search for the item. After a minute, turn on the flashlight or glow stick and search.

Talk about it:

  • How did it feel to search in the dark?
  • How did your light source help?
  • Read Psalm 119:105 together.
  • Think about your life. How do you see God guiding your steps?

Let’s Pray!

God loves and wants to protect each of us. No matter what you’re going through right now, no matter what struggle, pain or trouble – God wants to show you His power in your life. He still wins battles today. We can trust Him. Sometimes, we don’t see the victories right away, or they don’t look like we expected. We can still trust God. He’s always good and always loves us.

  • What is an area in your life where you need God’s power?
  • How has He shown you His power in the past?
  • As you pray, thank Him for showing His power to you in the past and pray and ask Him to help you today.

Let’s Memorize!

I hold on to you tightly. Your powerful right hand takes good care of me.

Psalm 63:8 NIRV

To memorize your verse this week: Grab a small ball, bean bag or squishy toy. As you read the verse, squeeze it when you get to “tightly” and “powerful.” When you say “good care” hold it out in your hands and smile. Repeat this until you know the verse!

Let’s Bless!

Stand up and say this blessing over each other:

May you know that God is powerful, and may you see His power in your life.

Don’t forget!
